What is FAA Certification?

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is responsible for the registration and regulation of civil aviation aircraft and drones throughout the United States.
According to FAA requirements, all drones that require registration must be equipped with a remote identification device (Remote ID) and registered before September 15, 2023.

Remote ID Broadcast Requirements

(1) According to ASTM F3586, the following information needs to be confirmed

  • Broadcast Protocol, Information, and Frequency
  • Flight Testing
  • Accuracy Testing
  • Broadcast Direction Testing
  • Self-Check and Emergency Situation Testing
  • Visual Inspection

Combining the requirements of the FCC for the radio frequency portion, submit to the FAA for certification

(2) According to ASTM F3411, the following information needs to be broadcast:

  • Drone ID
  • Drone Controller Latitude and Longitude
  • Drone Latitude and Longitude and Speed
  • UTC Timestamp
  • Drone Emergency Status
  • Pressure, Wind Speed, Accuracy, etc. (Optional)

According to ASTM F3586, only WIFI and Bluetooth protocols can be used for Remote ID broadcasting
