Testing Content Details

1. Physical and Mechanical Performance Testing

Including small part testing, sharp edge testing, sharp tip testing, tensile testing, torque testing, impact testing, and gap testing, etc.

2. Flammability Testing

Testing the combustion speed of toy materials to ensure they are not flammable or within a safe range

3. Chemical Performance Testing

Testing the migration of heavy metal elements in toy materials to ensure they do not exceed the limits specified in the standard

4. Age Group Warnings

Providing safety warnings and usage instructions corresponding to the characteristics of children of different age groups

5. Chemical Toys

EN71-5 specifies the restrictions and requirements for harmful substances in chemical toys, mainly applied to plaster, mortar, and other materials in molding and casting devices

6. Finger Paints

EN71-7 lists the allowed colorants and preservatives in finger paints and their limits, and specifies the migration limits for 8 major heavy metals

Specific Requirements

Main requirements are listed in the summary table, including limits for various substances. It should be noted that:

  • When toys or toy parts are subject to more than two sets of requirements, they must separately meet these requirements
  • Polymer materials shall not contain polymer coatings with a thickness greater than 500μm
  • "Execution restrictions" require that the content of substances be below the detection limits of test method EN 71-11
  • The limits for single substances, toy material solvent migration, and plasticizers are based on the content detected in the surrogate substances of EN 71-11
  • After the implementation of the EN 71-11 test method, the level of inhalable solvents can be easily determined

Toys should not contain the following substances in contact with liquids:

  • Toxic, poisonous, harmful, corrosive, allergenic, and irritating substances
  • Carcinogenic substances, category 1 or 2
  • Substances that induce organismal mutations, category 1 or 2
  • Toxic to reproduction, category 1 or 2
  • Substances with a PH value less than 3 or greater than 10 (Ink exception)

Toys designed for children under 3 years old should formaldehyde content in contact materials meeting the following standards: textiles 30mg/kg, paper products 30mg/kg, glued wood board parts 80mg/kg
