What is CB Certification?

The CB Scheme (IECEE CB Scheme) is a mutual recognition system for electrical product testing certificates established by the International Electrotechnical Commission's Electrical Product Qualification Testing and Certification Organization (IECEE). Based on IEC standards for type testing, certification bodies in member countries can issue their own certification certificates on the basis of CB certificates and reports, helping enterprises to conduct testing in one go and travel across multiple countries.

CB Certification Benefits

Reduce duplicate testing and audit costs, significantly shorten multi-country certification cycles.

Provide technical foundations for subsequent country-specific certifications (such as CE, CCC, KC, PSE, SAA, etc.).

CB Certification Process

1

Standard Confirmation and Sample Preparation

  • Confirm applicable IEC standards (such as IEC 62368-1, 60335-1, 60598-1, etc.) and national differences (national deviations)
  • Prepare representative model samples, key components, and material lists
  • Plan nameplates/labels and safety instructions
2

Type Testing and National Deviation Assessment

  • Conduct electrical safety and structural tests based on IEC standards
  • Supplement national deviation tests as required by the target country
  • Problem rectification and closed-loop verification
3

Issue CB Certificate and Report

  • Issued by the national certification body (NCB) as CB certificates and reports (CBTC/CBTR)
  • Used for certification reciprocity in member countries
  • Maintain consistency and manage subsequent changes

Applicable Products (Examples)

Home and Similar Appliances
Kitchen small appliances, environmental/heating appliances, cleaning products, etc.
Information Technology and Audio/Video Equipment
Computers, monitors, routers, AV equipment, etc.
Lighting and Power
Lamps, ballasts/drivers, adapters, and chargers
Testing/Measurement and Office Equipment
Instruments, office equipment, printing and copying equipment

Certification Requirements

ItemRequirement
Certification CycleRegular 3-6 weeks, adjustable according to standards and rectification frequency
Certificate ValidityLong-term validity; need to track standard updates and product consistency
Supervision RequirementsPartial member countries may require factory inspections and market supervision during certificate renewal
National DeviationBased on the target market, supplement national deviation tests (such as plugs/voltages/structural differences)

Application Materials

List of Required Materials

  • Application form and company information (manufacturer/agent/brand holder)
  • Product manual, model differences, and functional description
  • Technical documents: schematics, BOM, structure and PCB diagrams, exploded views/key component list
  • Sample and key component specification book, safety certification (such as power supply, adapter, etc.)
  • Nameplate/label sample and safety caution text
