Remote ID (Japan)
1. Standard Overview:
Japan defines RID as the "electronic nameplate" for drones, with its legal basis derived from the Aviation Act and the mandatory drone registration system implemented by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) in 2022.
Starting June 20, 2022, the Japanese government stipulates that all drones weighing over 100 grams must be registered legally and equipped with Remote ID functionality, while prohibiting flights of unregistered drones.

Remote ID Basic Functional Requirements
- Unique identification of drone identity;
- The RID broadcast function must be enabled and cannot be manually disabled;
- Requirements for binding operator ID;
Technical Standard Requirements
- Strictly follow the ASTM F3411 international standard to establish technical specifications;
- RID equipment must pass compliance certification by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism;
- Equipment must meet miniaturization and low-power consumption requirements, suitable for drones of different weight classes
- External RID modules must be securely installed in a prominent position on the aircraft;
Notes
Flight plan application: Subsequently, strictly follow MLIT requirements, complete registration and flight plan applications through the DIPS 2.0 system, check MLIT and local notifications before each flight, with compliance taking precedence.
